Bahá'í Women

"Shirin Ebadi and Zahra Rahnavard are Zionist Bahá'ís."

Reading the news lately? First of all, Bahá'ís are not zionists- but you already knew that. But these esteemed ladies Bahá'í women? We should be so lucky. We would be lucky to count either of them among our numbers, but they are not Bahá'í women. Why is calling someone a Bahá'í woman singularly the most inflammatory pejorative insult thinkable in certain parts? Like the signpost of the outer-most reaches of morality? And why do smart, talented, courageous women who present challenges to patriarchal authority find themselves saddled with that label?

And where does that leave actual Bahá'í women, who have quite a bit of patriarchy to contend with within our own ranks?

It's complicated.
